RUNVHAL is a running app in which you claim territory by running a loop around it. Doing that requires your location, and this page explains exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.

The short version

  • We record your location while you are running, because that is the app.
  • Other people cannot see where you are unless you switch sharing on, and it starts off for every single run.
  • The exact route of a run is deleted after 90 days. The ground you won with it stays yours.
  • We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps.
  • You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from inside the app.

What we collect

DataWhy
Precise location while a run is activeTo record your route, measure distance and pace, and work out the ground your loop encloses. This is the core function of the app.
Your run history — distance, duration, pace, routeTo show your own history, and to verify a turf claim on our server.
Email addressTo create and recover your account.
Display name, username, profile photoShown to other runners on the map and on your profile. You choose all three.
Date of birthTo confirm you meet the minimum age. We store the date, not a document.
Step count, while a run is activeTo show live cadence. It is not written anywhere off your device.

Location, specifically

RUNVHAL asks for location permission when you start a run, and for background permission so a run keeps recording when you lock your phone or switch apps. Without background access the run simply stops when you leave the screen.

Your recorded route is uploaded to our server when a run finishes, as the evidence for a turf claim. Our server re-checks that route independently — it does not take the app's word for a claim.

How long we keep your routes

The point-by-point trace of a run is the most sensitive thing this app will ever hold: it is a map of where you go and when you are not home. It is only needed until our server has verified the run and worked out the shape you enclosed. After that it is evidence, not function — so it expires.

  • Raw routes are deleted 90 days after the run. This runs automatically, every day.
  • What you won is not deleted with it. The shape, the area and the fact that you held it are kept — deleting a route never takes your ground away.
  • One exception: if a run is flagged as a possible error or dispute, its route is kept for up to a year so the claim can be investigated. That is the only reason a route outlives 90 days.
  • Live position is never retained as history at all. Server logs used to investigate abuse or faults are kept for 30 days.

Where your data is stored

Runs, routes and account data are stored on servers in the United States, operated on our behalf by Supabase. If you use RUNVHAL from outside the United States, your data is transferred there.

Live sharing, and what other people can see

During a run you can switch on live sharing. While it is on, other signed-in RUNVHAL users see your position, display name and distance on the map.

  • It is off by default and resets to off for every run. Turning it on today does not turn it on tomorrow.
  • Turning it off, ending the run, or closing the app removes you immediately.
  • Your live position is never kept as history. It is a single row that is overwritten as you move and deleted when you stop, and it becomes invisible to everyone 90 seconds after your phone stops reporting.
  • You can block any runner. A blocked runner cannot see you and you cannot see them.

Who else receives data

ServiceWhat it receives
Supabase — our database and authentication providerEverything described above. It is stored on our behalf and not used for their own purposes.
Open-Meteo — weather and air qualityYour location rounded to about 1 km, to show the temperature and air quality on the run screen. It is deliberately rounded so a precise position is never sent.
DiceBear — default profile picturesAn identifier derived from your account, used to generate a default avatar. No location and no run data.
AppleSign in with Apple, and map rendering.

We do not use advertising SDKs, and we do not share data with data brokers.

Tracking

We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. RUNVHAL does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because it has nothing to ask you for.

Deleting your account

Profile → Settings → Account & Security → Delete Account. It is immediate and cannot be undone. Your runs, routes, live position and challenge history are deleted. Ground you were holding is released and becomes unclaimed for other runners rather than disappearing from their maps.

If you would rather we did it, email hello@buildright.studio from your account's address.

Children

RUNVHAL is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to how we use it. Deletion is built into the app; for anything else, email hello@buildright.studio and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how long we keep it, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not quietly start keeping routes for longer than this page says.
